FundUp: How a Simple Idea Became a Finance Community

A casual suggestion during college fest planning grew into a student-run finance club whose first session drew 150+ attendees.

While learning basic finance on my own during my BTech, we were planning events for our college tech fest, Agnitus. During one conversation, I casually suggested: "Why not conduct a finance workshop?" That single thought changed everything.

I first shared the idea of forming a finance literacy club with my friend Ayana, who immediately supported it. Then I discussed it with our class tutor, Asst. Prof. Priya Ma'am, who encouraged me to take it forward. When I presented the idea to my classmates (CSE third year), the response exceeded my expectations — they suggested forming a team from within the class.

With that confidence, I presented the plan to Dr. Mubarak Sir (HOD) along with Priya Ma'am, and later to Principal Rajeev Sir. Even though it was the end of the fifth semester, we received approval, which meant a lot.

The Launch

At the start of the sixth semester, FundUp was officially inaugurated. The inaugural session on Financial Independence was handled by Abid Sir, and it was a huge success — over 150 students from across the college attended, along with several faculty members.

My class took complete ownership of the program — from coordination to logistics — with constant support from our tutors. That momentum helped us conduct three more workshops:

  • Financial Empowerment (Tech Fest — participants from across Kerala)
  • Mastering Financial Navigation
  • Basics of the Stock Market (by Trading Spot)

Students from all departments — including MBA — and many faculty members actively participated in every session.

Not a One-Person Effort

FundUp was never a one-person effort. Special thanks to Priya Ma'am, Dr. Mubarak Sir, and Principal Rajeev Sir for believing in the idea.

Special thanks also to my team — Aman (media), Ayana (marketing), Raheem (management) — and all the other students and volunteers who contributed. I wish I could name everyone individually, but that would make this post too long. Your effort made FundUp possible.

Today, FundUp continues in the college with a new team, which is something I'm genuinely proud of.

Finance education shouldn't be optional — it should be accessible to every student, regardless of their field.

This marks the conclusion of my finance content series for now.
