The Power of Prompts

AI tools like ChatGPT are easy to use — but great results depend on one thing: your prompt. Here's how to write better ones.

AI tools like ChatGPT are easy to use — but getting great results depends on one thing: your prompt.

What Is a Prompt?

A prompt is the message you give to an AI — your instruction or question. The clearer your words, the smarter the output. AI doesn't understand what you "mean," it follows what you say.

Why Prompts Matter

Ask vaguely, and you'll get average results. Ask clearly, and you'll get results that fit your goal perfectly.

Example:

  • Weak: "Write a marketing email."
  • Strong: "You are a marketing expert. Write a short, friendly email for a local café launching a new breakfast menu with a call to action: 'Book a table.'"

How to Write Better Prompts

  • Be clear and specific — define exactly what you need
  • Give context — who it's for, why you need it, and what tone to use
  • Mention the format — list, post, idea, etc.
  • Ask for variations or improvements
  • Review and refine — adjust your prompt if results feel off

A Simple Trick

AI may refuse unsafe or unclear questions (for example, "how to hack"). But if you reframe it safely, it can still teach you something valuable. Example: "What are common hacking methods and how can I prevent them?"

AI is powerful — but your prompt decides how smart it sounds. Learn to ask better, and AI becomes your most valuable partner, not just a chatbot.

Next: how to structure prompts to get expert-level results every time.
