Prompt Structure and Real Examples

A 4-part formula — role, task, context, output format — that turns a vague AI request into a result that actually fits your goal.

Once you understand what a prompt is, the next step is learning how to structure it — so AI can give exactly what you need. Good prompts work like giving clear instructions to a smart assistant, not like chatting with a friend.

The 4-Part Prompt Formula

  • Role — tell AI who it should act as. Example: "You are a career coach."
  • Task — explain what to do clearly. "Write a short LinkedIn post about professional growth."
  • Context — add background info or details. "Target audience: fresh graduates. Tone: motivational but real."
  • Output Format — specify how you want it delivered. "Give 3 versions. Each under 100 words."

Full Example Prompt

You are a digital marketing expert. Write a 3-line Instagram caption promoting a new local coffee shop. Target: students and freelancers. Tone: friendly, casual, and energetic. End with a short call to action.

AI output:

"Fuel your focus at BeanCorner — where ideas start with coffee. Study, create, and chill with us. Grab your first brew today!"

Why This Works

Because it gives AI:

  • A role to think like an expert
  • A task that's clear
  • A context to guide the tone
  • An output format that fits your goal

The clearer you are, the smarter it becomes.

Pro Tip

When you get a good result — save the prompt. You can reuse or tweak it anytime, like your own AI playbook.

Next: how to pick the right AI tool for your goal — writing, designing, automating, or building.
